Window Washing And How To Price

When I first started my San Diego window cleaning business, I had no idea what was a good price to charge. I was used to making money by the hour and not making very much per hour at that. So when I went out with my friend we made fifty bucks in under an hour at one of our houses and ninety at another in a little over an hour. My friend of course was much faster then me and knew what he was doing. What I didn’t realize at the time was that he was charging based on how fast he knew he could do the job but I thought he was charging by the house. So when I ventured out to start cleaning on my own I started cleaning houses at $90 per house. The house would take several hours for me to do but I was still very excited to have made $90 in less then 8 hours. Not understanding how to price my services started me down the path of the low baler, a person who charges way below the market price. It wasn’t until a few months later that I raise my prices and even then I was still a low baler. When I raised my prices I was making about $150 per house and I would charge for each screen.

After a couple years in the industry for my San Diego window cleaning business, I came across another window cleaner who told me my prices were to low at $5 per window, he told me that he charged $12 per window. I was blown away, he told me that his philosophy was to clean one house at $12 per window rather then working twice as hard to clean at $6 per window. He said that even though he did not get as many jobs he still got paid as much as some one getting a lot of jobs at $6 per window. So I did some thinking and decided to go with a range from $8 to $10 per window.
